::DIGITAL PORTFOLIO::
Welcome to the Pseudopia Studios digital portfolio. Below
are several small but highly representative examples
of our film production work. To see more of our film
work, visit our main 'Film' page via the link above.

MADELYN SMITH :: Documentary
Madelyn Smith is a 30-minute documentary chronicling
a life well lived. As much family history as personal narrative,
the work is designed to paint a portrait both of Madelyn
herself and of the culture and society of which she is both
part and producer.

DITCHED :: Narrative
In this dark romantic comedy, young love
blossoms around the trials and tribulations of disposing
of a corpse. Using a distinct visual style and a classic
soundtrack, the piece both flirts with the
romantic genre and creates its own narrative space.
Made in association with the Amherst Film Collective.

PRIMING :: Experimental
Made entirely from appropriated video clips,
this piece explores the power of an often overlooked
media form: children's animation. What do these animations
say, and in what way do they speak? Watching Priming
is like reliving a childhood experience--for good or for ill.

PERSPECTIVES OF AMHERST :: New Media
Perspectives is a new media website that presents
a constantly changing community-built video portrait of Amherst College.
Twenty videos, randomly selected from a large archive of uploaded content on each
refresh, come together in unexpected ways, creating a unique portrait of the Amherst environment.
The project explores the relationship between film and space, the possibilities
of film as a non-narrative device, and how private images come together to construct a public vision of place.

AFC MEMBERSHIP ADS :: Advertisement
This somewhat abstract series of ads was created to raise awareness of and attract members to the Amherst Film Collective,
a film production group I co-founded on the Amherst campus. Designed to be viewed before class screenings and other school content,
they work to pique interest in our club and its talents.

MORE ABOUT PSEUDOPIA
Everything Pseudopia Studios has made was produced and directed by Alex Davis-Lawrence,
a student at Amherst College. He has extensive experience in film production, both amateur
and professional, in all roles (producer, director, writer, editor, cinematographer, and,
with less success, actor).
In addition to his work with Pseudopia Studios, Alex has worked with Michael Cuddy Media
as an editor on several small projects and as
associate producer on
Marijuana: It's Time for a Conversation, a Telly-award winning documentary on
marijuana prohibition
commissioned for statewide internet and television distribution by the ACLU of Washington.
Clips from the project, a trailer, and web shorts (edited by Alex) are available here.
