AMERICA ABROAD :: Documentary
America Abroad is a short documentary exploring the
relationship between college study abroad programs and
the construction of American nationalism. Through a
combination of archival footage and contemporary interviews,
the project seeks to expose the sense of nationalized difference
that lies at the heart of study abroad programs, offering new
insight into both the institution of study abroad and into the
larger concept of 'nation.'
The documentary, which was Alex Davis-Lawrence's undergraduate thesis, was partially
sponsored by the American Studies department of Amherst College and
by a grant from the David P. Patchel Memorial Fund. America Abroad is currently available on limited release DVD in the Pseudopia store.
